This video shows RTTP Updater (Real Time Traffic Plan Updater) which is a demonstration executed in Flagship 1 Motional.  RTTP Updater is a support system for the traffic controllers, assisting with the detailed traffic planning. RTTP Updater creates precision in planning, traffic flow and relieves traffic controllers from tedious details in the planning. A key concept is that the traffic controller makes the larger and more important decisions, while RTTP Updater automatically handles the small adjustments needed for maximum traffic flow. The improvements are considered to be a very important piece of the puzzle to get the full benefit of connected driver assistance systems (C-DAS). RTTP Updater developments and demonstrations will continue in Flagship 1 Motional 2 (currently under Grant Agreement Preparation), aiming for higher technical maturity. 

After 46 months of collaboration, FP1 MOTIONAL, Phase 1 of EU-RAIL’s Flagship Area 1 and Digital Enablers, is approaching its final destination – but the journey towards a more integrated, digital and efficient European railway continues. In this fifth and final newsletter, discover highlights from our Final Event, where partners showcased achievements from 84 demonstrations across five interconnected research areas. FP1 MOTIONAL Newsletter 4 highlights a busy spring of dissemination events showcasing how digital innovation is transforming Europe’s railway system. Across five demonstration events in Germany, Spain, France and Sweden, project partners presented cutting-edge solutions in digital foundations, seamless passenger mobility, intelligent planning, cross-border capacity management and real-time traffic intelligence. The demonstrations illustrated how technologies such as digital twins, AI, automation, data sharing and decision-support systems are helping create a more interoperable, efficient and customer-focused European railway. Together, these events demonstrate FP1 MOTIONAL’s contribution to delivering a smarter, more connected and future-ready rail network for Europe.

The Digital Foundation session brought together experts to present the latest developments in digital asset engineering, data management and planning solutions for the rail sector.

The agenda included demonstrations and discussions on data acquisition, object extraction, 2D and 3D data representation, planning validation tools and digital twins. The programme also explored multimodal decision support and load estimation approaches that support more efficient and connected rail operations.

At the Cross-Border Operations Demo Event, held on 13 May, railway stakeholders from across Europe showcased innovative digital solutions designed to improve capacity management, traffic planning and cross-border operations. Demonstrations highlighted automated data exchange, intelligent timetable optimisation and advanced decision-support tools that help planners identify available capacity and manage operational disruptions more efficiently. The event underscored the importance of digitalisation, interoperability and collaboration in delivering a more integrated, resilient and competitive European railway system.

At the Real-Time Intelligence Event, held in Borlänge on 27 May, railway experts showcased innovative AI-driven solutions for traffic management, conflict detection and operational decision support. Demonstrations highlighted how automation, machine learning and real-time data integration can help dispatchers manage complex rail networks more efficiently. The event also explored human-centred approaches to automation, emphasising collaboration between intelligent systems and railway professionals to improve capacity, reliability and overall network performance.

On the 7th of May in Madrid, the FP1 MOTIONAL brought together Europe’s rail and mobility innovators to showcase a shared vision for the future of transport: seamless, inclusive and truly multimodal mobility for everyone. FP1 MOTIONAL Work Stream 2 aims, among other things, to organise the modularity, interoperability and composability of the complex high-order digital twins. Therefore, a number of use cases have been selected to elaborate assembly architectures and interface designs. The final goal is to provide a set of digital twin assembly templates and make them available to the entire Eu-Rail community. After a short introduction on the background, concept and target business case of the FP1 MOTIONAL digital twin work, three work package participants or use case owners took the stage of the town hall meeting and presented their points of view and current status. A short outlook concluded the meeting.
