Innovation on new approaches for guided transport modes
New opportunities for a transformation of the transport system will emerge, ranging from multi-modal solutions to new modes. FA7 explores non-traditional emerging guided transport systems and offers innovators the space to contribute their ideas for the future mobility. It is open to innovation, but focuses on fully automated, mobility systems that are sustainable, interconnected, digital, standardised, and scalable.

Flagship Area 7 Project - MaDe4Rail 2
After the successful completion of the first MaDe4Rail initiative, the successor project the MaDe4Rail 2 project aims to advance the development of Maglev-Derived Systems (MDS) and assess their feasibility for integration into the European railway network. Building on the outcomes of the previous MaDe4Rail project, MaDe4Rail 2 will refine MDS configurations and investigate their compatibility with existing infrastructure, focusing on subsystems such as power, propulsion, levitation and guidance.

Flagship Area 7 Project - HYPER4RAIL
Hyper4Rail will establish a unified framework for design, safety, and regulations for hyperloop by collaborating with key stakeholders. First, defining core principles (TRL 2), then advances to validating subsystems (TRL 4) via prototypes and lab tests. By aligning hyperloop with TEN-T, it offers a roadmap for seamless, sustainable integration to Europe’s transport system.
Flagship Area 7 Project - Pods4Rail
In September 2023 15 partners from seven European countries launched “Pods4Rail“, a research collaboration funded by the European Union. Over the 30 months of its duration the project that brings together top-level research institutions and highly innovative industry partners, is intended to substantiate the concept for a digitalised, decentralised mobility service with multimodal interfaces to different transport modes in order to carry out a concept for a door-to-door transport chain based on rail by 2025 and thus contribute to the necessary transformation of the European rail network.
