Your monthly update on innovation and deployment for Europe’s railway system of the future. On 1 June 2026, the EU-Rail...
Discover the key digital challenges facing the railway sector and the importance of establishing robust data chains across the entire railway value chain. Learn how innovative data space technology can unlock untapped data potential, driving efficiency, sustainability, and new value creation opportunities in the industry.
Digital Asset Engineering is a work package (27) within the MOTIONAL WS2 TT project focusing on the development of digital enabler 30 (Engineering toolbox {Models, software}).
This WP aims to digitize and automate the whole planning phases to ease engineering work, reduce costs of development and testing, and reduce time to deployment. Replacing paper as common-used exchange of information in planning CCS assets by digital format is the main focus of the WP.
This edition of townhall was done to introduce the topics and the pan for the next reporting period. An update with Tool release is planned for the next town hall.
FP1 WP31 is on its way to develop a Rail Data Space (RDS) – a key technological enabler designed to be decentralized, open, trusted, reliable, and cybersecure. This federated data space is essential for facilitating data exchanges within the rail ecosystem, governed by a specific framework.
Key features of the RDS:
Since July 2023, the Rail data Space has been available to all WP31 partners in “Sandbox-Environment” to support development and release of further components.
The Transversal Topic (TT) activities of the ERJU, covered by the MOTIONAL project, aim to develop an initial environment for the coherent creation, modelling, editing, and processing of data in order to facilitate the digitalisation of the rail sector. In detail, TT addresses data modelling and sharing capabilities, digital engineering processes, and digital twins.
Therefore, the second TT Townhall Meeting was dedicated to the background, concept and initial specification of the environments for the creation, assembly and simulation of modular, interoperable, composable Digital Twins. The objective was to popularize the approach and receive feedback from stakeholders within ERJU’s System and Innovation Pillar and from outside the ERJU program.
