On 21st of November, FP1 MOTIONAL held its online Townhall, marking an important milestone on the path toward next-generation Digital Asset Engineering.
The programme featured a collaborative workshop led by DB InfraGO AG, a presentation by MERMEC on LIDAR-based railway asset detection, and an overview by PKP of emerging guidelines for the development and maintenance of Digital Twins. The session concluded with an open Q&A.The Townhall spotlighted three key pillars driving the digitalisation of Europe’s rail system:
- Deep Learning for Object Extraction – showcasing how advanced AI techniques can detect and classify railway assets, including demonstrated applications of LIDAR-based object extraction.
- Common Guidelines for Digital Twins – outlining harmonised specifications to support consistent development and upkeep of digital twins across European rail infrastructure
- Collaborative Digital Asset Engineering – reinforcing partner alignment and encouraging technical knowledge-sharing through a hands-on workshop.
Overall, the Townhall provided a valuable platform for exchanging expertise and fostering innovation, standardisation, and interoperability in digital rail asset management across Europe.
FP1 MOTIONAL Demonstrator at Málaga María Zambrano Station
ADIF, RENFE, and INECO have launched an innovative accessible totem at Málaga María Zambrano station as part of the FP1 MOTIONAL under the EU-Rail program. This prototype delivers real-time information and assistance for passengers with special needs, offering tactile, visual, and auditory interaction, and even robot-guided help. This system enhances independence and comfort while traveling. Within the same Work Package“Gobos” was also featured, a light projection system highlighting train doors for easy access. Testing runs from July 15–17 with diverse user participation.
