FP1 – MOTIONAL - Project News

Motional is Transforming Urban Mobility: Seamless Ticketing, Navigation and Sustainability

May 26, 2025

As part of the FP1- MOTIONAL project under Europe’s Rail, Enrique Jiménez from Indra gave a presentation at the ITS Congress in Seville on the development of innovative solutions to enhance ticketing, navigation and payment systems within the scope of the project. These solutions use technologies like Ultra-Wide Band (UWB), Bluetooth Low Energy (BLE) and Account-Based Ticketing (ABT), integrated within a MaaS platform and built on open standards such as the Open Sales Distribution Model (OSDM) and Open Journey Planner (OJP).

This approach supports seamless multimodal transport across Europe, enabling users to navigate stations effortlessly and purchase tickets across operators. Real-time guidance and post-trip payment systems simplify mobility for all, including passengers with reduced mobility, while reducing operational complexity for transport providers. The effectiveness of these innovations will be demonstrated at a station of Metro de Madrid, marking a significant milestone in the implementation of smart transport solutions. The results of these demonstrations will be further examined by the project to determine how they can redefine public mobility, and offer user-friendly, efficient and environmentally sustainable systems aligned with EU goals for climate-neutral cities.
