Magnus Wahlborg from Trafikverket represented Europe’s Rail JU’s Flagship Project 1 (FP1) -MOTIONAL at Train & Rail, the Nordic region’s largest fair for sustainable rail transport.
In his presentation, Magnus explained that the project will contribute to an interoperable, integrated and resilient rail system in Europe by exploring solutions for a Traffic Management System at the European level which will not only will pave the way towards a Single European Railway Area, but will also contribute towards a better passenger travel experience and more efficient and greener freight services.
Magnus also focused on the algorithms and simulation methods for timetables optimisation and increased capacity developed by the project. These algorithms will enable advanced rail services planning and world-class operational management. With ten demonstrations currently underway in Sweden, Magnus also highlighted the importance of testing and validation of the solutions developed by the project to ensure appropriate quality and the agreed technical readiness level (TRL). He also highlighted that future scaling up of innovations and solutions will ensure market development and competitiveness.
Following his presentation, Magnus joined a panel discussion with the representatives of the other EU-Rail Flagship projects focusing on the holistic rail system issues in Europe. The discussion closed with a general message highlighting that the cooperation across disciplines and national borders is of a crucial importance for achieving an attractive, user-friendly, affordable, easy to maintain, efficient and sustainable rail system in Europe.
Train & Rail is held every two years. In 2023, the event registered more than 3000 visitors and over 150 exhibitors.
