The Europe’s Rail Joint Undertaking, The European Commission and the European Union Agency for Railways are teaming up for InnoTrans 2024. A joint stand (Hall 27, Stand 511) will host numerous events and showcase some of the latest rail innovations. A special train will arrive in Berlin from Brussels, flying the flag for more cross-border rail services, symbolising unity of the rail sector with the EU institutions to tackle the transport and mobility challenges, pushing Innovation and delivering boost to the European economy. And the Women in Rail awards will celebrate some remarkable contributions to women in rail and their achievements.

Join us for an exclusive event featuring CEOs, MEPs, and government representatives. This session will showcase cutting-edge rail technology and output of our current and inherited R&I Programme. We will highlight successful partnership results emphasizing benefits for end-users, operators, infrastructure managers, and suppliers.

  • Digital Automatic Coupling Digital Automatic Coupling (DAC) transforms train operations, promising revolutionary improvements in logistics and safety.

FP6-FUTURE

  • TELLi Mock-Up Boosting regional railways is crucial for decarbonising transportation and combating climate change. Current rolling stock options fail to meet the specific needs of G1 and G2 lines due to overcapacity, weight, and cost issues. Our FP6 FutuRe project allows French solutions, like the TELLi project, to be shared with European manufacturers and operators. TELLi aims to design a new regional train with innovative features such as an advanced driver’s cab, infrastructure-friendly ground connection, adjustable suspension for easier boarding, a 200 km battery range, and a cost-effective ETCS light CCS system suitable for isolated lines.

FA7-MADE4RAIL

  • MAGLEV Virtual Levitation Join us for a demonstration of MAGLEV technology, showcasing virtual levitation techniques that redefine train travel.
  • Interactive Presentation on MADE4RAIL Outputs The module will feature an interactive presentation showcasing key outcomes of MaDe4Rail, the first project in the Maglev destination within FA7 of EU-Rail’s Innovation Pillar. Using advanced multi-touch screen technologies, it will provide an engaging user experience. The module’s primary objective is to highlight the MaD4Rail project and MDS technologies, addressing Europe’s current and future mobility challenges. It includes MDS technology descriptions, system configurations, railway applications, benefits of MDS integration, tech demonstration videos, a Europe travel time calculator, and infographics with project results. This module will enhance the visibility and impact of MaD4Rail by making complex information accessible and engaging, fostering better understanding of MDS technologies, and encouraging stakeholder engagement.

System Pillar

  • Simulation Illustration Rulebook Initiative The serious gaming is a railway simulation used for both educational and evaluation purposes through interactive, game-based simulations. It is used to evaluate new processes, such as the new DB Ril400, a rulebook for operating on ETCS Level 2 without lineside signals. This approach simplifies complex systems, enhances the understanding of operational scenarios, and facilitates the testing and refinement of new rules and procedures, by collecting feedback from participants. It allows for uncovering inconsistencies, lack of clarity, and gaps in the rules. At Innotrans it will be used to demonstrate the operational scenarios developed in the System Pillar Operational Design domain.

EU-Rail Innovation Tours

Join our Guided Tours at InnoTrans 2024 to explore cutting-edge rail solutions developed under the EU-Rail and Shift2Rail programmes. This exclusive opportunity allows participants to engage directly with experts and see innovations firsthand. Highlights include the Flexx & Distance Master, different models of the Digital Automatic Coupler (DAC), the ERTMS Trackbot, and much more. These tours offer a unique chance to connect with our founding members, ask questions, and understand how our innovations will make rail the everyday mobility.


Special European Train

A dedicated European  train will transport the high-level delegation from Europe to InnoTrans. We have designed this space to serve as a laboratory of ideas through high-level panels and working space areas. Passengers will travel in the presence of Mr George Gilkinet, Belgian Deputy Prime Minister and Ms Magda Kopczyńska, Director General for Mobility and Transport, European Commission,, and CEOs of Europe’s Rail membership.

The arrival event planned in Berlin in the afternoon of Monday 23 September, where a welcome ceremony is to be held at Berlin Hauptbahnhof in the presence of Mr Volker Wissing, German Minister for Digital Affairs and Transport and the high-level guests disembarking the train.
