Wabtec and Trafikverket teams carrying out onboard testing and validation activities during the FP6 FutuRe G2 Lines demonstration campaign on the Nassjo – Gothenburg railway corridor.
As part of the FP6 FutuRe project, Wabtec and Trafikverket have successfully completed a comprehensive demonstration campaign of the G2 Line technical enablers on the Swedish regional railway network. The activities were carried out along the Nassjo – Gothenburg corridor, providing an opportunity to validate the developed technologies in a real operational environment.

The campaign combined system integration, onboard testing and data validation activities, representing an important milestone towards the final stages of the project. Initial preparation activities included equipment installation, end-to-end system verification and a series of pre-tests to ensure the readiness of all components before the execution of the operational trials.

The demonstration programme involved multiple train journeys over the Nassjo – Gothenburg route, enabling the project team to assess system behaviour and collect operational data under realistic railway operating conditions. Tests were performed throughout different periods of the day and covered the full range of planned scenarios required for validating the G2 Lines CCS functionalities, including the cloud-based connection and data management with FP1 Motional Federated Data Spaces technical enabler.

Following the onboard activities, experts from Wabtec and Trafikverket jointly reviewed and validated the collected data to verify the successful execution of the test programme and assess the performance of the demonstrated solutions.
The results obtained during the campaign will contribute to the final evaluation of the technologies developed within FP6 FutuRe and support future deployment opportunities on regional railway lines.
Beyond the technical objectives, the successful campaign demonstrated the value of close collaboration between infrastructure managers and technology providers in accelerating innovation for Europe’s rail sector.
By validating advanced digital solutions directly on operational infrastructure, FP6 FutuRe continues to contribute to a safe, affordable and reliable regional railway system.
The Swedish demonstration campaign marks another important step towards delivering practical and deployable innovations that support the digital transformation of regional rail transport across Europe.
