Shift2Rail sponsors PhD students working on efficient and sustainable interconnected logistics

Shift2Rail has sponsored PhD students by offering them the possibility to participate to the 6th International Physical Internet Conference (IPIC) in London. The successful students took part in a doctoral colloquium where they had the opportunity to present and discuss their research ideas with other students and established researchers.

As a sponsor of IPIC 2019, Shift2Rail helped PhD students cover their travel and accommodation costs to participate to the doctoral colloquium aiming to reflect on, and further develop submitted papers or research proposals. Students presented their papers in a targeted session with ample time for feedback and discussion.

In addition to the sponsorship of the doctoral colloquium, Shift2Rail Executive Director Carlo Borghini also participated in a panel discussion about the importance of fully interoperable physical, digital and financial flows to achieve truly integrated transport system for sustainable and efficient logistics.

Mr Borghini also participated in a session dedicated to rail freight innovation for the physical Internet. He discussed how digitalisation is enabling new concepts and innovation in rail freight to provide the required flexibility and reliability to the rail freight system meeting end users demand.
