State-of-the-art concept of vibration prediction tool

Description: The deliverable presents the state-of-the-art of prediction models for railway induced vibration and differentiating between numerical, empirical and hybrid models. It contains a review of empirical models with particular emphasis on the general framework recommended in ISO 14837-1:2005, as well as the empirical procedure for Detailed Vibration Assessment proposed by the Federal Railroad Administration and the Federal Transit Administration of the U.S. Department of Transportation. These offer the opportunity to develop hybrid models that combine experimental data with numerical prediction. The document also presents the concept and framework of the hybrid vibration prediction tool that will be developed in SILVARSTAR.

Target audience: All rail stakeholders

How it brings us closer to achieving better rail for Europe: The work provides the railway community with a commonly accepted, practical and validated methodology and a user-friendly prediction tool for ground vibration impact studies. This tool will be used for environmental impact assessment of new or upgraded railways on a system level. It will facilitate project planning and implementation by improved simulation processes.

Impact Assessment of the Assets4Rail technologies for railway asset monitoring and maintenance

Description: The deliverable is presenting the assessment of the overall impact of the technologies developed, adapted and tested by the Asset4Rail project. The assessment is structured around four business cases :

      • technologies for the cleaning of long distance (tunnel) drainage pipes;
      • noise reduction measures;
      • wayside 3D cameras to monitor the status of bogies of freight wagons;
      • BIM in monitoring and maintaining railway infrastructure and assets

Target audience:  All rail stakeholders

How it brings us closer to achieving better rail for Europe: The outcomes of the impact assessments provide an understanding of the relevant types of costs and benefits that can be expected for each technology and the rationale for those impacts to occur. Cost saving, RAM improvement and reduction of externalities will be reached thanks to the deployment of these cutting-edge technologies.
