As Europe’s railways expand, their safety and efficiency depend increasingly on knowing every train’s position....
On 16 April, during the Transport Research Arena conference (TRA), Commissioner for Mobility and Transport Violeta Bulc visited the Shift2Rail JU stand to learn about the preliminary results of the Shift2Rail projects and see the newly launched innovation capabilities interactive map. This visit served as a ‘first impression’ of what is to come in September 2018 at InnoTrans – the leading international trade fair for transport technology.
The Innovation Capabilities map is an interactive graphic document that explains how the JU works to deliver the 12 innovation capabilities defined in its Multi-Annual Action Plan – Executive View (Part A). Capabilities (such as ‘Automated Train Operations’ and ‘Mobility as a Service’) are focused on delivering the process of innovation itself as well as to accelerate, develop, accept, and deploy innovative products and services to deliver the railway systems of the future. This interactive artwork will be available on the Shift2Rail website at a later stage.
Out of a total of 44 S2R running projects 22 are presenting 27 scientific papers as part of the official TRA programme, while 17 projects are presenting on the Shift2Rail stand.
Shift2Rail has also presented the geographical coverage map of its Programme with 343 participants in total from 27 countries.
Commissioner Violeta Bulc has reinforced her support to Shift2Rail and highlighted the continuous need to deliver concrete results to boost railway systems in Europe.
