Newsletter 23 – FP3-IAM4Rail takes part in the Arctic Test Arena launch: a unique opportunity for real-world testing in the Arctic

Output type:
FP3-IAM4Rail took part in the launch of the Arctic Test Arena (ATA), a European initiative that enables real-world testing of trains, infrastructure and digital systems in the harsh Arctic environment between Narvik and Abisko. With sub-zero temperatures, snow and ice, the ATA offers an ideal setting to assess performance, resilience and interoperability while fostering collaboration among research institutions, industry and operators through data-driven testing and cross-border operations.
For FP3-IAM4Rail, the event provided valuable insights into how its predictive monitoring and maintenance technologies perform outside the laboratory. Key tests included evaluating digital platforms in extreme cold and monitoring the Søsterbekk Bridge with advanced sensors capable of operating at –30 °C. The launch also encouraged international knowledge exchange, supporting Europe’s commitment to integrated rail innovation. The findings will help refine FP3 solutions and contribute to future climate-resilient rail systems.
