The need for future development of methods and models for capacity simulations and feedback loops between planning and operations
This deliverable focuses on upgrading capacity simulation methods to determine the impact of new railway technologies (i.e. European Train Control System Hybrid Train Detection (ETCS HTD), Automated Train Operation (ATO)/ Connected Driver Advisory System (C-DAS) integration, and next-gen brakes). This document underlines the need to improve current capacity simulation tools and feedback loops between the Capacity Management System (CMS) and Traffic Management System (TMS) and to consider the impact of new technologies such as ETCS HTD and ATO/C-DAS. The publication also discusses the methodology for verifying, calibrating, and validating such simulation solutions. These findings will inform capacity studies in Work Package 9 and additionally, new technology impact assessment in Flagship Project 2 R2DATO.
Target audience: Rail stakeholders
How it brings us closer to achieving better rail for Europe: The Flagship Project 1 MOTIONAL aims to provide solutions that will pave the way towards a future Single European Railway Area, while enhancing its interoperability, resilience, and capacity. This document provides an overview of the capacity simulation tools and feedback loops between CMS and TMS for improving the efficiency of planning and operations across Europe.

Onboard Platform Demonstrator: Demonstrator Specification
The aim of the work package 36 is to demonstrate, in a controlled laboratory environment, the coexistence of safety-critical and non-safety-critical rail applications in a Modular Computing Platform. This deliverable collects the demonstrator’s specification as a basis for further design and realisation. This publication notably identifies relevant input sources, dependencies and defines the necessary assumptions and restrictions followed by a structured approached specifying the System under Consideration (SuC) and setting the basis for furthers analysis on both system and sub-system level.
Target audience: Rail stakeholders
How it brings us closer to achieving better rail for Europe: The Flagship Project 2 R2DATO aims to enhance the capacity of the existing rail networks to match the increasing demand for transportation of both passengers and freight. To achieve this objective, this flagship project will take the advantages of digitisation and automation. In this deliverable, the demonstrator sets the technical scope and purpose of the intended system, defining its purpose, environments system boundary, capability, functions, and interfaces, ultimately preparing Europe’s rail future.
