Europe’s Rail Joint Undertaking has published a draft high-level draft document outlining a proposed future for rail public-private partnership in Europe. The document represents initial reflections from the Founding Members of the Joint Undertaking on building upon the current rail research initiatives.

The high-level draft document focuses on the mission of simplifying the European rail system and achieving a Single European Rail Area (SERA), that supports EU strategic objectives for sustainability, economic growth, and territorial cohesion.

“This draft document provides a starting point for discussions on the future of European rail research and innovation,” said Giorgio Travaini, Executive Director of Europe’s Rail. “We invite all stakeholders to engage with these ideas as we work to ensure rail delivers on its potential for Europe.”

The document outlines estimated investments of €3 billion for R&I activities and approximately €15 billion for pre-deployment initiatives.

Note: This draft vision represents initial reflections and is subject to further development and consultation.
