The European Union Agency for Railways (ERA) has announced that it will be holding the ERTMS 2024 Conference in 23-25 April, in Valenciennes, France.

Taking place at Cité des Congrès Valenciennes, this year’s edition will focus on deployment of the European Rail Traffic Management System (ERTMS) projects across Europe. It will highlight lessons learnt from successful implementation projects, the state of play of ERTMS deployment and the future perspectives. In addition, the conference will explore the migration and implementation strategies for Future Railway Mobile Communication System (FRMCS) alongside innovation and research projects contributing to the evolution of the CSS TSI (Control Command and Signalling Technical Specifications for Interoperability).

Decision makers, industry representatives, railway undertaking and infrastructure managers, as well as key stakeholders will participate in the conference, in order to exchange experiences and drive forward the deployment of ERTMS across Europe and beyond frontiers.

On 23 April, our team will participate in a multitude of sessions.

Our Programme Manager and Seconded National Expert, Mr Karel van Gils will host a panel on  ‘The DAC (Digital Automatic Coupling) programme and its interaction with ERTMS’. The session will give a broad overview of the current state of play of the upcoming milestones for DAC. Interfaces with ERTMS will be illustrated based on harmonisation of operational rules and Safe Train Length and Integrity functionality.

Our System Pillar Programme Manager, Mr Soenke Kraft, will host a workshop ‘Outputs of EU Rail, Standardisation and TSI Input Plan’, which will focus on the expected outputs of EU-RAIL relevant to Control Command and Signalling (CCS) and ERTMS.

Our Senior Programme Manager, Ms Léa Paties, will join a session on ‘How to succesfully introduce FRMCS (the succesor of GSM-R) on EU network and the vehicles’. The discussion will focus on FRMCS migration and deployment strategies, challenges, national plans, and more.

Our Acting Executive Director, Mr Giorgio Travaini, together with the Head of System Pillar, Mr Ian Conlon, and Senior Programme Manager, Ms Léa Paties, will present the outcomes, operations and opportunities of the Europe’s Rail System Pillar and Innovation Pillar.

Lastly, Europe’s Rail will also present at the Rail Agora (Marketplace) on 25 April. This marketplace will host a variety of stands, bringing together key European rail stakeholders.
