Europe’s Rail Newsletter – May Edition The May Newsletter is filled with the latest updates, key insights, and...
Date: 24 June
Time: from 10:00 to 11:00 (CET).
The EU-Rail FRMCS Deployment Group is pleased to invite FRMCS stakeholders, associations and agency representatives to an online information session on the 2026 FRMCS Deployment Questionnaire.
The purpose of the session is to clarify the structure and content of the questionnaire and to ensure a common understanding of the questions.
As the current rail telecommunications system (GSM-R), based on 2G technology, approaches the end of its lifecycle in the 2030s, the sector is preparing for the transition to FRMCS (Future Railway Mobile Communication System). In this context, the EU-Rail FRMCS Deployment Group supports the development of recommendations for a cost-efficient, simple and fast deployment approach for the European rail sector.
Building on the successful 2025 survey, the 2026 questionnaire has been updated and expanded to include additional stakeholders, such as Mobile Network Operators (MNOs) and Notified Bodies (NoBos). It aims to collect more detailed input from the sector and further strengthen the understanding of deployment needs across Europe.
The session is open to all interested stakeholders and is particularly relevant for organisations planning to respond to the survey.
Why is this important?
The more responses are received, the better the Group can develop targeted recommendations and support informed decision-making on FRMCS deployment topics. The results of the survey will be consolidated and published in September 2026.
The questionnaire is part of EU-Rail’s ongoing work to support evidence-based recommendations for FRMCS deployment, and results will be shared with all contributors.
