Definition of the KPI Model for the EU-Rail Programme: KPI Cards

The Europe’s Rail Work Programme identifies KPIs for flagship area projects to measure and thus monitor progress in the respective areas. These KPIs are referred to as the technical KPIs. The KPI cards describe the societal impact of the entire Europe’s Rail Programme. This is done by adding an additional layer of indicators, referred to as societal KPIs, on top of the monitoring structure detailed in the MAWP. The societal KPIs are linked to the most relevant technical KPIs to measure the potential impact of the EU-Rail JU portfolio in the identified societal domains. The technical KPIs are measured separately for each use case, representing each of the rail segments where demonstrations are taking place, such as High-Speed Rail, Regional Rail, and Freight. This approach helps to provide a more accurate assessment of the technology applications and demonstrates the impact on society as a whole.

In essence, research and innovation have a significant impact on society, driving progress, fostering economic growth, and improving people’s quality of life. The KPI cards illustrates quantitative (and qualitative) model that assesses the societal impact of the Europe’s Rail Research and Innovation Programme, and how it connects to the existing framework of technical KPIs in the MAWP.
